🚗 Attention Parents and Students! 🚗
When you return to campus, you’ll notice a large electronic sign indicating that Panther Drive is no longer a through-road. Here are some important updates for pick-up and drop-off:
Afternoon Pick-Up:
* McCollum Drive is now the recommended pick-up route for parents.
* The front drive will remain off-limits until buses have left the campus (around 3:20 PM).
* Panther Drive will be open for pick-up, but you must keep moving. No stopping or blocking traffic to wait for your student.
* Your student should not plan to meet their ride at the gym. Instead, they will be picked up in the back of the Media Center or at the crosswalk in front of the English building, after you’ve used the turn-around.
* If you’re arriving after 3:20 PM, the front loop is your best option.
Morning Drop-Off:
* McCollum Drive is not to be used for drop-off. It’s designated for buses only in the mornings.
Important Safety Reminder:
* Students cannot meet their ride at the crosswalk on Palmer Street. This is not safe for either students or drivers. Officers will be enforcing this for safety.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we adjust to our new traffic patterns. Our goal is to ensure everyone gets in and out safely. Thank you for helping us make this transition smoother! 👏

Parents and Students,
We look forward to welcoming back students on Monday, January 6th. Please note, students will report to advisor on Monday morning at 8:05 before going 1st period.
We hope you had a safe and relaxing break and we look forward to a great Spring Semester.

FHS is proud to highlight a newer face to education, yet a true veteran and professional in her field—Ms. Kussow. She joined the FHS CTE Department right in the middle of the pandemic, bringing with her a passion to pass on the knowledge she had cultivated over many years in the medical field.
In the Spring of 2024, Ms. Kussow was selected by her peers as the FHS Teacher of the Year (If you haven’t heard her speech from Class Day last Spring you are missing out). Behind the scenes, she was also instrumental in developing and advocating for a new Certified Clinical Medical Assisting (CCMA) course. During its pilot year, five FHS students earned their CCMA certification, a remarkable accomplishment. Now, this class is being replicated statewide, with Ms. Kussow contributing to the development of the curriculum.
Thank you, Ms. Kussow, for your unwavering dedication, your commitment to your students, and your passion for your vocation.

Attention Dual Enrolled Students Taking Online Classes:
Please be aware that your class schedule will now reflect the FHS Media Center as your class location.
You are required to report to the Media Center each day to complete your online coursework.
Attendance will be taken daily, and the current attendance policy will be in effect.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in this matter.

Congratulations to Mr. Ryan Haley and his Economic and Personal Finance students for their outstanding achievement!
Over the summer, Mr. Haley successfully applied for and received a grant, enabling Franklin High School to participate in the statewide Stock Market Game competition. FHS competed against nationally ranked schools, including Wake STEM Academy, Highland School of Technology, Weddington, Green Level, Ardrey Kell, and First Flight, as well as local schools like North Henderson and TC Roberson.
Franklin High School finished 1st overall and had 6 teams place in the Top 20 statewide, out of nearly 50 schools and over 1,000 teams. This competition is sponsored by the North Carolina Council on Economic Education (NCCEE).
We are also proud to announce that FHS has been selected to represent our congressional district, under Congressman Chuck Edwards, in the 2025 Capitol Hill Challenge. Our school will send 10 teams of 3 students each to compete in this prestigious national competition.
Congratulations again to Mr. Haley and his students for their hard work and success!

This week, Franklin High School senior Anna Waskey had the opportunity to travel to Raleigh as part of the Governor's Page program. During her time in Raleigh, Anna worked alongside policy officials from various state government departments to develop a policy proposal. She also gained valuable insights into state government operations, attended informative sessions with government officials, and completed tasks for different state agencies.
A key component of the program was the service project, which all Governor's Pages are required to plan. During the week, Anna focused on crafting a project that aligns with the mission of VolunteerNC, engaging youth in service and demonstrating its impact on North Carolina communities. Additionally, Anna toured government buildings and historic sites, further enhancing her understanding of the state's political landscape.
In the picture below, Anna is pictured with North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper.

Congratulations to Senior Will Sinclair!
William was invited to the exclusive 2024 Kicking World National Showcase taking place on December 7-8 in Austin, Texas.
He earned the invitation earlier this season by having a ‘wow’ performance at a Kick World Camp competing against over 1,200 HS football kickers during the 2024 camp tour which covered 40 major cities across 30 states.
Kicking World has only invited 99 of these 1,200+ students and Will is one of 75 participants (representing 28 states) who accepted their invites and are confirmed for the big weekend.
The event is streamed live from Austin, TX on both days via the @KickingWorld Instagram channel. The posted roster and basic event info can be found at kickingworld.com/live
