Yesterday, Santa made a very special stop at our Administrative Office! Our Pre-K children were thrilled to welcome him with big smiles, lots of giggles, and plenty of holiday cheer. What a magical moment for our littlest learners!

Today we had the pleasure of celebrating an upcoming retirement! Our Human Resources Director/Auxiliary Services Director Todd Gibbs will be retiring on January 1, 2026 after 28+ years of dedicated service to our school system. We are incredibly grateful for his leadership and commitment—and we were especially thankful to have his family in attendance to share in our celebration. Please join us in wishing Mr. Gibbs the very best as he begins this new chapter.

Congratulations to Larry Pickens for being recognized at the NCCAT CTE Teacher of the Year Dinner as a statewide finalist. We are so proud to celebrate this amazing accomplishment! Mr. Pickens- your hard work and heart for students inspire us all. We are truly lucky to have you making a difference in our classrooms and our community. Congratulations!

The Macon County Board of Education will hold their Regular Scheduled Meeting on Monday, December 15, 2025 beginning at 6:00 pm at South Macon Elementary School located at 855 Addington Bridge Road, Franklin, NC.

Reminder: There will be no school for students next week!

Monday, November 24 and Tuesday, November 25 will be Teacher Workdays. Wednesday, November 26 will be an Annual Leave Day for staff. Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28 will be Thanksgiving Holidays.

As we head into the Thanksgiving break, we want to wish all of our students, families, and staff a happy and restful Thanksgiving. Enjoy the time with your loved ones!

Students and staff will return on Monday, December 1, 2025.

We were proud to attend the 2025 North Carolina School Board Conference, where we had the opportunity to learn, grow, and strengthen our leadership skills. We are grateful for the valuable training and insights that will help us better serve our students, staff, and district. Always striving to lead with purpose and put students first!

We are thrilled to announce that our very own Nishelle Henson, Macon Middle School’s outstanding educator and our District Teacher of the Year, has been named Region 8 Teacher of the Year! A special surprise recognition took place today to honor this incredible achievement. Mrs. Henson’s dedication, passion, and commitment to excellence inspire students and colleagues alike every single day.

Congratulations Mrs. Henson on this well-deserved honor and we wish you all the luck moving forward to State competition.

Reminder: This Monday, November 10th will be a Mandatory Teacher Work Day. There will be no school for students.

Also, please note that Tuesday, November 11th, all schools will be closed in observance of Veterans Day. A very special THANK YOU to all veterans for your service and sacrifice!

A huge thank you to Mountain View Intermediate School, Mrs. Breedlove, Mr. Burns and the incredible students for giving us a special preview of the Z Lab before our school board meeting! We are so impressed by the innovation, creativity, and hard work on display. We’re excited about the amazing opportunities this space will create for our students to learn, explore, and lead.

Ms. Stauffer embraces every challenge and opportunity with passion and positivity. She has woven herself into the very fabric of Franklin High School! The Macon County School System is beyond grateful to have her as a part of our team!

During last night's Board of Education meeting, the Macon County Board of Education revisited Board Policy 4318- Use of Wireless Communication Devices. Following discussion of the policy, on a motion made by Melissa Evans and seconded by Hilary Wilkes, the Board approved by a 3-2 vote to return to a “during instructional time” policy rather than a bell to bell policy. Board members Diedre Breeden and Stephanie Laseter opposed the motion.
